The Civil Division includes service of civil litigation and criminal process. The civil litigation area is divided into 3 areas: process service, seizure and sale, and garnishments. The criminal process area handles service in criminal, traffic, family court, and juvenile matters.

A key area of responsibility for the Civil Division is seizure and sale of property. Civil sales of both movable and immovable property occur every Wednesday morning (excluding holidays) at 10:00 A.M. The sales are located on the 2nd floor of the Lafayette Parish Consolidated Government Building at 1010 Lafayette St. across from the Parish Courthouse.

Bidding is open to all persons and payment must be made by 2 P.M. on the day of the sale. Only certified funds will be accepted.

Specific information pertaining to Civil sales may also be found in the legal section of the official journal of Lafayette Parish (The Advertiser) 10 days prior to each sale for movable properties and 30 days prior for immovable properties. The advertisements are also published on Thursdays, prior to each sale.

In addition to the newspaper posting, the public may also subscribe (see below) to receive a weekly email notice and or link directly to Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Sale site to view detailed information regarding property to be sold during the weekly sale.
