Lafayette Sheriff's Office is Accredited by CALEA

Thursday, July 17, 2003

Sheriff Mike Neustrom and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office were honored by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) with accreditation on Saturday, July 12, 2003 at the CALEA Summer meeting in Detroit, Michigan. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office is now the largest accredited Sheriff’s Office in the state of Louisiana, and the only Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana to be accredited by CALEA as well as ACA (American Correctional Association). LPSO was accredited as a class D agency, which is determined by agency size, and requires compliance with 444 applicable standards. Receiving this prestigious honor is the result of three years of hard work and preparation by Sheriff Neustrom, Sgt Doug Daly Accreditation Manager, and all LPSO Deputies who share their dedication to providing the highest quality law enforcement available for our community.

According to CALEA, “Accreditation provides objective evidence of an agency's commitment to excellence in leadership, resource management, and service delivery."

Sheriff Neustrom is proud that this accomplishment will benefit the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office as well as the entire community. Advantages noted by CALEA accredited agencies include controlled liability insurance costs, stronger defense against lawsuits, greater accountability within the agency, and increased community advocacy. All of these benefits will help to make Lafayette Parish a greater place to live, work, and visit.
