Deputy Honored as ACA Corrections Officer
Congratulations to Deputy Olugbenga Shomade, he is following the footsteps of his Work Release co-workers and supervisors and setting a trend in the process.

In May, Deputy Shomade passed the ACA Corrections Officer Exam. With this accomplishment, Shomade became the first driver to obtain this status and the fourth Work Release employee to receive ACA certification.

Teacher Thanks LPSO for Supporting Education!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of education, teachers and students in Lafayette Parish. I was one of the 12 finalists in the recent Lafayette Education Foundation (LEF) Teacher Awards ceremony. Without your support, it is possible that these types of ceremonies would not happen, and that teachers would not get to realize that they have people rooting for them in the community. I feel so wonderful that I was a part of this, that so many people value education. The positive effects of being a small part of this will stay with me for so long. It has strengthened my resolve to do as much as possible for the students of Lafayette Parish. Once again, thank you for all that you do to support education.

Man charged with Manslaughter

Tuesday, May 18, 2004

Tuesday, May 18, 2004

On Monday, May 17, 2004 Detectives with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office arrested 50 year-old Craig Morvant of 230 Jenkins Road in Scott, on one count of Manslaughter.

The arrest warrant was issued after an investigation began on Saturday, May 15, 2004. Sheriff's Office deputies responded to 230 Jenkins Road after a relative attempted to wake 37 year-old Angelle M. Nini and discovered she was not breathing. Witnesses indicated that the victim had been ill for sometime.

Sheriff's Office Detectives continued to investigate and on Monday, May 17, 2004 an autopsy revealed the cause of death to be internal blunt trauma. With this information and other evidence obtained, the husband of the victim, Craig Morvant, was arrested. He is being held at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on a $250,000 Bond.
