Teacher Thanks LPSO for Supporting Education!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of education, teachers and students in Lafayette Parish. I was one of the 12 finalists in the recent Lafayette Education Foundation (LEF) Teacher Awards ceremony. Without your support, it is possible that these types of ceremonies would not happen, and that teachers would not get to realize that they have people rooting for them in the community. I feel so wonderful that I was a part of this, that so many people value education. The positive effects of being a small part of this will stay with me for so long. It has strengthened my resolve to do as much as possible for the students of Lafayette Parish. Once again, thank you for all that you do to support education.

Agencies Collaborate to Clean Up Lafayette Parish

Local Government Agencies Collaborate to Clean-up Lafayette Parish

The Litter Abatement program was established 3 years ago as an agreement between the 15th Judicial District Court, The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, and Lafayette Consolidated Government to clean up litter in the Parish of Lafayette. The program directs offenders to give back to their community in positive ways.
Individuals convicted of a misdemeanor offense are sentenced by the 15th Judicial District Court to complete a specific amount of hours in the Litter Abatement program. The program starts at 8:30a.m. and ends 4:30p.m. every Saturday. The individuals report to the Lafayette Sheriff's Office, who provides transportation and supervision of the participants. The participants clean streets, parks, government and non-profit organization buildings through Lafayette Parish.

Since January 2006, over 150 participants have successfully completed the program. Some of the areas and events they performed services include:

"I find that Sheriff Neustrom and his staff are committed to improving the quality of life in Lafayette Parish. City-Parish Government and the Sheriff's office have always worked well together. In 2000, the Sheriff helped clean up the old Larabee Pit Road, and stop the illegal dumping that was going on there. I also know that the Sheriff's office sends out inmate crews to clean Lafayette's roads of litter when deputies are available to supervise the inmates, as required by law."
