Escapee captured by Sheriff's Office

Monday, October 16, 2006

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office would like to provide information on two issues of concern.

This morning the Lafayette Parish District Attorney's Office received a phone call saying that a bomb had been placed on the 6th floor of the courthouse. The receptionist taking the call said the voice was that of a male who had a mid-eastern accent. The 6th floor was searched with the LPSO bomb dog. No bombs were found. LPSO has a number that may have used to make the call, and an investigation is on-going. The courthouse was reopened at 1:15 p m.

At 9:15 a m this morning On-Star called LPSO about a customer's vehicle being stolen. Two inmates from St. Mary Parish escaped last night about 8:00 p m, hopped a train to Leesville, and obtained a ride to Pineville, where they stole a car. They also committed at least two burglaries and stole 3 guns. They ditched the car near highway 89 south of Youngsville. Deputies apprehended one suspect ( 26 year old w/m Barrack Paul Landry). Landry had been incarcerated for trespassing and drug charges.

The other escapee, James A. Wilson, b/m, age 29, is still at large south of Youngsville. He was serving time for armed robbery. He is considered armed and dangerous.
