Metro Narcotics Bust

Friday, March 1, 2002

On Wednesday, February 27, 2002, at approximately 9:30 PM, Lafayette City Police Officers responded to a suspicious incident involving several men standing around a vehicle near Shoney's Restaurant on NE Evangeline Thruway. As officers arrived, the individuals began to leave, but two were detained. Officers looked into the vehicle and saw in plain view, a large amount of money, and what appeared to be narcotics. Lafayette Metro Narcotics Agents (a partnership between Lafayette City Police and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office) were called to the scene and their investigation produced the recovery of approximately 517 grams of cocaine (street value $51,700), $3,700 cash, and a Ruger .45 caliber handgun. Wayne C. Roberts (b/m dob-12/31/73 of St Martinville) and Joseph Gillian Jr. (b/m dob-4/24/74 of St Martinville) were arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine.
