LPCC Receives Accreditation

Tuesday, July 17, 2007

After an arduous process the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center has been awarded the status of accreditation with verification from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. This marks the third accreditation the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office holds.

LPCC staff has dedicated many months to achieving this accreditation. On March 13-14, 2007, the jail received an initial survey. At this time NCCHC committee members noted areas that needed improvement and set a deadline for compliance by June 25, 2007. LPCC staff set a course of action and documented corrective measures.

On July 13, 2007, the accreditation committee met in Las Vegas, NV to review reports and determined LPCC met the requirements for accreditation under the NCCHC standards.

The accreditation with verification status means LPCC will need to send additional documentation to the NCCHC committee.
NCCHC is dedicated to improving health services in jails, prisons, and juvenile confinement centers. There are 73 standards classified as either essential or important. Accredited jails are required to be in compliance with all applicable essential standards and minimum of 85% of the applicable important standards.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office additionally holds accreditation by Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and American Correctional Association (ACA).
