2009 "Kiss a Cop" Event
LPSO as well as other local agencies participated in the annual "Kiss a Cop" event hosted by Faith House. The event is held every October during Domestic Violence Awareness month.

The staff and residents of Faith House host "Kiss a Cop" and invite law enforcement to have dinner with the children currently residing at Faith House.

The purpose of the event is to show children that law enforcement are the "good guys", since the only prior experience many of them have had with law enforcement involved their response to a domestic violence incident.

Teacher Thanks LPSO for Supporting Education!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of education, teachers and students in Lafayette Parish. I was one of the 12 finalists in the recent Lafayette Education Foundation (LEF) Teacher Awards ceremony. Without your support, it is possible that these types of ceremonies would not happen, and that teachers would not get to realize that they have people rooting for them in the community. I feel so wonderful that I was a part of this, that so many people value education. The positive effects of being a small part of this will stay with me for so long. It has strengthened my resolve to do as much as possible for the students of Lafayette Parish. Once again, thank you for all that you do to support education.

Press Releases

Deputy of Quarter Honored

Monday, August 4, 2008

Sheriff Michael W. Neustrom and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office honored outstanding Deputies at their quarterly awards ceremony. Deputies representing the Administrative, Enforcement and Corrections Divisions were recognized for outstanding service to the Sheriff's Office and the citizens of Lafayette Parish.

Administration:

Training Specialist Tracy Girard – Training Specialist Girard has been with the Sheriff's Office since 2004 and currently serves as an A.L.E.T.A. instructor as well as an instructor in areas such PPCT, First Aid & CPR, Verbal Judo, Legal Update/Use of Force, and Firearms, where he applies innovative training techniques to both cadets and co-workers. Despite becoming ill recently due to the heat, Training Specialist Girard continued to work at the firing range in order to ensure the cadets qualified with their firearms – an example of his dedication to the concept of teamwork.

Enforcement:

Detective Michael Babineaux & Detective Dwayne Angelle – Detective Babineaux serves in the Juvenile section of C.I.D.; Detective Angelle serves in the Crime Scene section of C.I.D. They are nominated for their actions during a recent homicide investigation. Detective Babineaux worked diligently to gather evidence, including phone records and statements from family members and witnesses, all of which led to a quick arrest. Detective Angelle gathered evidence that was later used by our agency as well as federal agents to conduct tests that helped bring to light what had actually occurred. Through their actions, both detectives “have displayed dedication to their assignments and responsibilities by elevating their efforts to a higher level in order to more completely investigate this crime."

Corrections:

Captain Colby Barbier – Captain Barbier serves as supervisor of the Work Release Program and is nominated for not only his supervisory skills but also for serving as an example to his employees who have become supervisors themselves. Through good advice, understanding, and going above and beyond, he has served as an inspiration.
