Corrections Division Announces New Juvenile Program

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

The Corrections Division at the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office announces a new program for juveniles titled Milestones. The program is an outpatient and intensive outpatient program for males and females ages 12-17.

The program offers life skills training, spiritual counseling, moral reconation therapy, job readiness, family and individual sessions, alcohol and drug free activities, and random drug screens. Transportation will be provided to and from the program site.

Milestones is currently screening clients for eligibility. Initially the program will provide outpatient services for a minimum of two hours weekly with Milestones eventually offering nine hours of sessions for six weeks. The family component will also be offered in this beginning phase.

Referrals can be made by treatment professionals, school personnel, juvenile probation and parole, judges, and anyone working with at-risk youth. Any student who may benefit from the structure of this program is eligible for an assessment by the program staff.

The program is located at the Community Corrections Center, 100 Poydras Street, in Lafayette.
