2009 "Kiss a Cop" Event
LPSO as well as other local agencies participated in the annual "Kiss a Cop" event hosted by Faith House. The event is held every October during Domestic Violence Awareness month.

The staff and residents of Faith House host "Kiss a Cop" and invite law enforcement to have dinner with the children currently residing at Faith House.

The purpose of the event is to show children that law enforcement are the "good guys", since the only prior experience many of them have had with law enforcement involved their response to a domestic violence incident.

Food Net Board of Directors Appreciates LPSO Assis
Dear Mike, On behalf of the Board of Directors of Foodnet and the thousands of less-fortunate people who benefit from our food bank, I want to express our gratitude to you and the Department for the major role that you played in our annual Christmas Food Drive. The Twenty-Third annual KLFY-TV-10/Foodnet “Food for Families” food drive was a great success – one of our best. We finished with a total of seventy-four tons of food. Our success could not have been realized without your co-operation and the assistance of the Trustees. The courtesy and co-operation of my friend, Albert Glaude. Albert is always there with his calmness and re-assurance when just about everything is dependent on the assistance of the trustees. I am very grateful to all of you. Sincerely Marcelle F. Deputy Latiolais & Deputy Porche Receive Special Recognition

Friday, October 17, 2003

Sheriff Michael W. Neustrom presented the Sheriff’s Special Recognition Award to Deputy Scotty Latiolais and Deputy Michael Porche during a brief ceremony held Thursday afternoon at the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office. Both are Marine Reservists and were recognized for their honorable service as part of the United States Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton, California during the War Against Terrorism.

Deputy Michael Porche, Corrections Deputy was hired by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office in January of 2003. He was attending the LPSO 218 Hour Correctional School when he received his orders for active duty, however, his Marine Unit Commander allowed him to complete and graduate from the Correctional Academy before reporting to duty. Deputy Porche graduated from the LPSO Correctional Academy on March 20, 2003 and left for duty at Camp Pendleton with the rank of Infantry Squad Leader on March 21, 2003. Deputy Porche returned from his tour of duty on September 8, 2003 and has returned to his job at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

Deputy Scotty Latiolais, Corrections Deputy – Food Services Division, was hired by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office in January of 2002. He reported for duty at Camp Pendleton, California on March 21, 2003, leaving behind a son and a wife who was pregnant for their second child. Latiolais served in several different capacities during his tour of duty, and received a promotion to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Deputy Latiolais returned home one week before the birth of his second son. Just in time! He returned to work at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on August 7, 2003 and is currently attending the Acadiana Law Enforcement Training Academy.

Congratulations to both of you! We thank you for your sacrifices, dedication, and commitment to your country, family, and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office!
