Deputy of the Quarter "Enforcement"
Sgt Seaux and Melancon 1st Quarter 2008 "Enforcement" Deputy of the Quarter honorees for their actions in the following incident:

Sgt. Seaux serves as a supervisor on the 200 Shift; Sgt. Melancon serves as a supervisor on the 400 Shift; they are nominated for their actions in the following incident:

After investigating a purse snatching, the 200 Shift was able to obtain the license plate of the suspect; Sgt. Seaux then obtained the suspect’s mother’s address via ARMMS and passed the information on to Sgt. Melancon. Sgt. Melancon proceeded to the mother’s address and confirmed that the vehicle did belong to the suspect and that he would probably return to her residence that night. Sgt. Melancon was also able to obtain another possible location for the suspect and informed the 200 Shift at shift change that evening. The 200 Shift learned that the suspect had used the victim’s stolen credit cards at the Acadiana Mall and that the Lafayette Police Department was investigating two vehicle burglaries and another purse snatching involving the same vehicle.

Sheriff's Message

I wanted to share a personal experience I had recently, which made me reflect on how important a job we all have in taking care of the citizens of Lafayette Parish. My wallet and cell phone were stolen out of a locker in a local health club. I had left my locker unlocked, as I had for the past 15 years. This time I wasn't so lucky. With the able assistance of our CID and Intel Unit, we were able to catch the responsible person. I was impressed with our agency's efficiency in tracking down the culprit. Granted, my case was a small one compared to our citizens who are victimized by more serious offenses.

The effort made by our agency in making people's lives better is what my message is – and that we have all taken on the responsibility and challenge to accomplish this in a way that is lawful and fair-minded. We deal with people on a daily basis who have some crisis in their lives:they may have been victimized by crime; they may be in jail; they may have to go before a judge in whose hands their freedom rests; or they may have a child in trouble. We are called on to handle these situations professionally and calmly.

I applaud all of the hard work and sacrifice that each employee of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office provides. You all do a wonderful job and it is a pleasure to serve as your Sheriff!

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, “serving the community with courtesy, professionalism and respect."
