Food Net Directors Appreciates LPSO Assistance
On behalf of the Board of Directors of Foodnet and the thousands of less-fortunate people who benefit from our food bank, I want to express our gratitude to you and the Department for the major role that you played in our annual Christmas Food Drive. The Twenty-Third annual KLFY-TV-10/Foodnet “Food for Families” food drive was a great success – one of our best. We finished with a total of seventy-four tons of food.

Our success could not have been realized without your co-operation and the assistance of the Trustees. The courtesy and co-operation of my friend, Albert Glaude. Albert is always there with his calmness and re-assurance when just about everything is dependent on the assistance of the trustees. I am very grateful to all of you.

Sincerely
Marcelle F. Citron

Training Courses

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office has entered into an intergovernmental agreement with the Lafayette Parish School Board to occupy the property that formerly housed St. Antoine elementary school. Now housed in this facility is the Sheriff's Community Training Center. The training facility offers courses for Sheriff's Office personnel as well as certain courses specifically designed for the general public. Some courses offered to the public include, Civilian Firearms Safety, Street Wise Self-defense, and the Civilian Academy. The Civilian Academy enhances the relationship between the Sheriff's Deputies and the community, resulting in a clear understanding of what the community can expect from the Deputies who serve them. The course also helps promote the concepts of community policing.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office Shooting Range is now available for public use during restricted hours. Contact our Training & Professional Development Division at 337-236-5607 or training@lafayettesheriff.com for information about public hours and registration requirements.

Deputies are mandated to attend classes in Legal Update, Defensive Tactics, First Aid and CPR, Drug Identification, Conflict Resolution, Firearm Qualifications and many other courses designed to make Sheriff's deputies, some of the best trained officers. The Sheriff's Office and the Lafayette Parish School Board have partnered to offer high school seniors the option of learning about the Criminal Justice System, Community Policing, Investigation, Crime Prevention, Patrol Activities, and much more. This career academy offers career direction, hands-on training, and job shadowing as well as one high school credit for successful completion.

The training center is located at 111 S. St. Antoine street 3 blocks north of Cameron St. and is open weekdays from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Civilian Academy

Do you have questions about the Sheriff's Office?
Did you know that the Sheriff's Office does other things besides arrest people?
Have you ever wondered why a Sheriff's Deputy does the things he does?

If you have questions about this and other things, you should consider attending the Sheriff's Civilian Academy. The goal of the civilian's academy is to enhance the relationship amongst the Sheriff's Deputies, the entire department and the community, resulting in a mutual understanding of what the community and the deputies can expect from each other.

Civilian Firearms Safety Class

The goal of the Civilian Firearms Safety Class is to teach interested persons in the community the basic safety and marksmanship rules of handguns.

It is recognized that in this day and age, many people own and handle firearms in an effort to protect themselves. This class is aimed at providing the public valuable information about how to handle a firearm safely, how to shoot accurately, when it is legal to use a firearm, and what to expect when a firearm is used to defend a life.

These classes are offered periodically and consist of two 4-hour classes on Wednesday and Thursday nights and a 4-hour class at the firing range on Saturday morning.

These classes are offered free of charge as a public service to the community.
