Biography

The Director of the Training and Professional Development Division is Major Francis Green, a 30-year veteran of Law Enforcement. Major Green served for 18 years with the Lafayette City Police where he retired with the rank of Captain, and 9 years with the University of Louisiana as Training Coordinator and Police Instructor for the Acadiana Law Enforcement Training Academy (ALETA). Major Green is a graduate of Paul Breaux High School, the University of Southwestern LA (Masters Degree Political Science), and the 145th Session of the FBI National Academy.

Training Mission

The mission of the Training and Professional Development Division is to provide training, including continuing and advanced training, for Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office personnel and our community. The Training and Professional Development Division is responsible for training both new personnel and incumbents as well as providing advanced training opportunities through external providers for Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office personnel and other area law enforcment agencies. Training is provided in the following areas: firearms, defensive tactics, first aid and CPR, effective communication, legal updates, supervisory training, drug identification, stress management and conflict resolution, as well as many other areas. The Training and Professional Development Division also conducts the LPSO Reserve Academy and the LPSO Corrections Academy. In July, 2003, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office began a partnership with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to operate the Acadiana Law Enforcement Training Academy(A.L.E.T.A.).

The Training and Professional Development Division, located at the Sheriff's Community Training Center - 111 S. St. Antoine Street in Lafayette also conducts training for the community by offering classes for area citizens such as Streetwise Self Defense for Women, Civilian Firearms, and Hunter Education. Other programs operating at the Sheriff's Community Training Center include LPSO After School Tutoring, LPSO Career Academy, Sheriff's Civilian Academy, VITA tutoring (satellite location), AVEC Les Enfants Safe Visitation Center, and the CARETECH Computer Tutoring Program.
