Finance Mission

The mission of the finance division is to safeguard the assets of the Sheriff's Office through proper accounting procedures, good internal controls, and the use of well qualified and trained staff. The office is responsible for managing a budget in excess of thirty million dollars annually and manages a payroll for approximately 550 full and part time employees/deputies. The finance department makes use of the latest technology in software to properly manage the accounts of the Sheriff. The Sheriff's Office is one of very few Sheriff's in the state to implement a computerized time and attendance system which automates the timekeeping function.

The Information Technology Department has the responsibility of strategic planning for all of the technology initiatives of the Sheriff's Office. The department is tasked with taking the technology concepts spelled out by the Sheriff, and through the acquisition of hardware and software, helping to turn those ideas into useable systems which help deputies perform their responsibilities better and more efficiently. IT also manages the day to day operations of the Sheriff's network and other systems.

The department of Risk Management works closely with the training staff to better inform the deputies of Lafayette Parish of the importance of working safely and always following stated procedures and guidelines, in an effort to reduce accidents in the workplace as well as in the performance of duty. Over time, these initiatives create a better, safer work environment as well as reduce the exposure to liability issues, both of which can be very costly.
