It is the policy of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office to seek the best-qualified individuals for full and part-time positions. The selection process is thorough and regimented- equal opportunity is provided to everyone regardless of race, color, gender, national origin, age or disability.
To be considered for employment, applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and must possess a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, honorable discharge (if prior military), and no record of felony convictions. The hiring process includes, but is not limited to, the following:
» Taking the Test of Adult Basic Education or passing the Entry-level Correctional Officer Exam » Satisfactory completion of the employment application » Successful background investigation and oral interview
Upon acceptance of a conditional job offer, new employees must also successfully complete a medical and psychological examination and drug screening. The process may also involve a physical agility test involving the essential functions of the job for which the applicant is applying. Applicants may further be required to undergo a polygraph examination regarding background and character. Subject areas from which questions are drawn include financial status, physical condition, work record, honesty, use of alcohol, driving record, arrests and convictions, drugs, narcotics, gambling, blackmail, friends, relatives, associates, and loyalty to the United States. Back to Top Steps to Employment Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE)
Potential applicants shall be required to produce written documentation of successful completion of the TABE prior to receiving an application. The TABE may be waived only if the applicant holds a Doctorate degree.
Step 1 T.A.B.E test or Correctional Exam completed Turn in completed application Division interviews Initial Interview with Human Resources Step 2 Criminal History check (N.C.I.C) Step 3 Polygraph Examination Step 4 Background Investigation Step 5 Conditional Offer of Employment Step 6 Psychological Screening/Interview Step 7 Medical Examination and Drug Screening Step 8 Final Offer of Employment * Applicants who successfully complete steps one through four will be placed in a pool of candidates awaiting job availability. Steps five through seven may include an additional polygraph and physical agility test.
