LPSO Reserve Academy 2017 Complete Details
ACADIANA LAW ENFORCEMENT
The 2017 Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office will be conducting a Reserve Academy starting January 31st, 2017. An organizational meeting will be held on Monday, January 30th, 2017 at 6pm at the Public Safety Complex located at 1825 W. Willow Street in Scott. The meeting will provide each person with all the information and requirements of the academy.
The Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) has set a minimum of 360 hours of instruction for a Level I Peace Officer Academy. The academy has fifteen (15) mandated blocks of instruction with between one and fourteen classes designated within each block. Each block has a required test and each Cadet must have a minimum average of 70 percent to take the P.O.S.T. final test at the completion of the Academy.
The Reserve Academy classes will be held Tuesday and Thursday nights, with a few exceptions, from 6pm to 10pm and one Saturday a calendar month, from 8am to 5pm. Cadets will be given an Academy calendar listing all scheduled classes. There is a scheduled summer break the first two weeks of July in order for those who may have family vacation plans.
The Lafayette Sheriff's Office understands that cadets attending the Reserve Academy may have full time jobs, so, in addition to scheduled night time classes, cadets can attend any one of the 3 daytime Academies scheduled throughout the year in order to make up missed classes. We recommend attending the night classes when at all possible, as testing is scheduled around attendance in the Reserve Academy classes. The Cadet is responsible for missed handouts and study materials given in class.
P.O.S.T. has mandated a 90 percent attendance rate for the entire Academy, with mandatory attendance in certain blocks such as Firearms, Defensive Tactics, and First Aid/CPR. Any missed examinations must be taken before the next scheduled class, and cadets are welcome to come in during the day before night time classes begin.

Attached is a list of every scheduled class. Saturdays are underlined.
