Sheriff's Crisis Intervention Team

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office continues its commitment to help individuals in need. The Crisis Intervention Team, which officially began operation in December 2007, has expanded its trained staff to 20 deputies.

The Crisis Intervention Team is a partnership between law enforcement and community agencies that serves the needs of the mentally ill in critical situations.
In a crisis, law enforcement is the first responder. To effectively deal with these situations, law enforcement personnel are trained in negotiation techniques and educated on behavioral symptoms of mental illness as well as the medications used in treatment.

Sheriff Neustrom and the members of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office are committed to serving all of the community with courtesy, professionalism and respect.
