Sheriff's Office seeks re-acreditation
Tuesday, April 3, 2012
On April 14 – 17, 2012 the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office (LPSO) will be assessed for its third re-accreditation by the nationally recognized Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). LPSO began initial preparations for accreditation in 2000 and was awarded status in 2003. The on-site assessment, which occurs every three years, will re-examine LPSO’s compliance with 480 professional law enforcement standards in four basic areas: Policy and Procedure, Administration, Law Enforcement Operations and Support Services.
As part of the re-accreditation assessment, LPSO employees and area citizens may offer comments to the assessment team via a confidential phone line (337) 456-6248 on Sunday, April 15, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Employees and members of the community are also invited to offer input to the assessment team at a public information session on Monday April 16, 2012 at 6:00 PM at The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Community Training Center (111 S. St Antoine Street in Lafayette). Telephone comments and appearances at the public information session are limited to ten minutes and must address LPOS’s compliance with CALEA standards. Copies of the CALEA standards are available for viewing by calling LPSO Accreditation Office at (337) 236-5864. Written comments may be sent to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainseville, Virginia 20155.
