Local Business Volunteers to Help Teach Offenders Job Interview Skills

Thursday, March 25, 2010

The most important factor in determining the chances of a criminal offender’s successful return into the community is their ability to find and secure employment. On Friday, March 26 from 9:00 a.m. until Noon, The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, with the help of several local businesses will conduct a Mock Job Fair. Local professionals will help by conducting mock job interviews for criminal offenders participating in one of LPSO’s many jail diversion programs. The event will give the prospective offender job seeker a real life training opportunity by giving them the opportunity to interviewing with local human resources and other business managers.
Participating offenders are asked to prepare resumes and dress as if the interview is real. Interviewers are asked to give constructive feedback that the offender can use to improve their job interviewing ability. The Mock Job Fair will take place on the LPSO Community Corrections Campus, located at 100 Poydras in Lafayette.
This unique program is just one of the many training programs and services the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office provides its offender population in an effort to give them the best opportunity for a successful return into our community.
