Sergeant Alicia Barbier is Selected as the Challenge Coin Award Recipient

Wednesday, June 6, 2012

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office proudly announces that Sergeant Alicia Barbier, Community Corrections Court Liaison and Sheriff’s Tracking Offender Program (S.T.O.P). Supervisor has been selected as this month's winner of the Challenge Coin Award. This award recognizes Corrections employees who, through their work ethic and actions, personify the attributes of leadership, creativity, honor and innovation.

The award is unique in that every new winner is selected by the current winner, making it truly a peer-to-peer award. Challenge Coin recipients exemplify all that Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Employees strive to uphold: “To serve the community with courtesy, professionalism, and respect.”

Sergeant Alicia Barbier has been with the Sheriff’s office for over 11 years, starting as an L.P.C.C. Corrections Deputy.  Currently serving as the Community Corrections Court Liaison and head of the Sheriff’s Tracking Offender Program, she and her department inspire change and create opportunities for offenders approved for LPSO diversion programs. Sergeant Barbier was nominated by Deputy Katina Morris; in her nomination letter, Deputy Morris wrote, “Sgt. Barbier showed me not to be afraid of change and to always embrace the unknown.” The challenge coin award process now stipulates that Sergeant Barbier will identify and nominate the next award winner.
