New Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Inmate Industries Manager Named

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office announces the promotion of Sergeant Jared Yashar to the rank of Lieutenant and Manager of LAPCORR, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Inmate Industries program.  

Lieutenant Yashar is a graduate of Lafayette High and has been with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office since 2002. He is also a graduated of the ALETA Corrections Academy. In his ten years with the Sheriff’s Office, Lieutenant Yashar has worked a variety of jobs in the Corrections Division. Prior to this promotion Jared was a supervisor in the Corrections Center Operations Department and also served as Disciplinary Sergeant conducting Offender disciplinary hearings.  

In making the promotion announcement, Captain Colby Barbier said, “We are glad to have someone with Jared’s experience working with the Inmate Workers and the staff at LAPCORR.”

LAPCORR Industries provides valuable job experience to many Lafayette Parish Correctional Center Offenders, offering a simulating  “real-world” work environment helping them build skills useful upon re-entry into society.  LAPCORR manages Inmate Work Crews that provide low cost green area maintenance, labor, and cleaning up services to Lafayette Consolidated Government and other municipalities in the Parish. It also manufactures and markets a variety of products including trash bags, corrugated boxes and institutional bedding to qualified buyers such as government agencies, schools and non-profits. Skills learned by our Inmate Workers enhance their ability to find employment upon release.

 

LAPCORR industries is located on Grissom Drive near the Lafayette Regional Airport and is one of the LPSO programs that will relocate to the new 29-acre LPSO Public Safety Complex on Willow Street once it is complete.
