Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a burglary in progress call in the 1300 block of Roper Road at 3:00AM on April 4, 2013 and intercepted a stolen truck leaving the area of the crime. Deputies were able to determine that the truck was apparently stolen from the car lot of a dealership within Lafayette City Limits. Deputies soon discovered a second vehicle was stolen from the same car lot. Kenneth Taylor, 18 years old, of Scott has been booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional for felony motor vehicle theft and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
Deputies later determined that at least two other vehicles had also been stolen from the local dealership. Deputies did recover one of those two vehicles on Lebesque Road in Lafayette. Authorities are looking for a 2003 Chevrolet Pickup Truck 2500 series, white in color, with larger than factory tires bearing license plate is B507708.
Sheriff’s deputies are continuing the investigation at this time and additional arrests are expected.
The recovery of these stolen vehicles is a testament to good observant police work and determination of the deputies responding to this call. Recent crime data indicates an increase in property crimes in the area the deputies were dispatched to and by being alert to suspicious circumstances, the deputies actions were remarkable.
