Deputy Latiolais & Deputy Porche Receive Special Recognition

Sheriff Michael W. Neustrom presented the Sheriff’s Special Recognition Award to Deputy Scotty Latiolais and Deputy Michael Porche during a brief ceremony held Thursday afternoon at the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office. Both are Marine Reservists and were recognized for their honorable service as part of the United States Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton, California during the War Against Terrorism.

Deputy Michael Porche, Corrections Deputy was hired by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office in January of 2003. He was attending the LPSO 218 Hour Correctional School when he received his orders for active duty, however, his Marine Unit Commander allowed him to complete and graduate from the Correctional Academy before reporting to duty. Deputy Porche graduated from the LPSO Correctional Academy on March 20, 2003 and left for duty at Camp Pendleton with the rank of Infantry Squad Leader on March 21, 2003. Deputy Porche returned from his tour of duty on September 8, 2003 and has returned to his job at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

Deputy Scotty Latiolais, Corrections Deputy – Food Services Division, was hired by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office in January of 2002. He reported for duty at Camp Pendleton, California on March 21, 2003, leaving behind a son and a wife who was pregnant for their second child. Latiolais served in several different capacities during his tour of duty, and received a promotion to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Deputy Latiolais returned home one week before the birth of his second son. Just in time! He returned to work at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on August 7, 2003 and is currently attending the Acadiana Law Enforcement Training Academy.
