LPCC Holds Disaster Drill

Tuesday, March 6, 2007

The Lafayette Parish Correctional Center held a mock disaster drill at noon on Tuesday, March 06, 2007. The drill is part of the requirements for accreditation from the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare (NCCHC).

The fire drill involved the LPCC, Acadian Ambulance, and the Lafayette Fire Department. The drill provided the three entities a learning opportunity to better prepare should such a situation arise.

The drill lasted about an hour and no inmates were evacuated. LPSO employees acted in the roll of inmates for this simulation.

Members from the NCCHC accreditation committee will arrive next week for an onsite visit. At this time interviews will be conducted with inmates and staff and a thorough inspection of the facility and healthcare services will be evaluated. If the LPCC meets the requirements, a recommendation for accreditation by the NCCHC will be submitted and presented for a full review over the summer.
