2009 CALEA Public Notice

Friday, March 20, 2009

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of a program to maintain accreditation by verifying it meets professional standards.

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) requires law enforcement agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: Policy and Procedure, Administration, Law Enforcement Operations, and Support Services.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and the public are invited to offer comments by calling (337) 236-5691 on Sunday, April 19, 2009 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. The Assessment Team will be taking comments on an unrecorded line.

Agency employees and members of the community are also invited to offer comments at a public information session Monday, April 20, 2009 at 7:00 pm at the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office Community Training Center located at 111 S. St. Antoine Street.

Telephone comments, as well as appearances at the public information session, are limited to ten minutes and must address the agency's ability to comply with CALEA's standards. Copies of the standards are available for review at LPSO. For additional information you may contact the Accreditation Office at 236-5864.

Anyone wishing to submit written comments about LPSO's ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 10302 Eaton Place, Suite 100, Fairfax, Virginia, 22030-2215.
