Body Found in Vermillion River

Thursday, March 10, 2011

On Thursday March 10, 2011 at approximately 10:15am Lafayette City Police received a call from an agent with the Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries stating that they had discovered a body floating in the Vermillion River near the 200 Block of Farmington Road.
Upon responding city officers met with Wildlife and Fisheries agents and noticed that the body was that of a white male similar to the description of a missing person they were attempting to locate from earlier in the week.
City Detectives notified the Lafayette Sheriff’s Office due to the Vermillion River being in the Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction.
Both agencies began a joint investigation into the incident and were able to confirm that the body was that of 39 year old Mitch Jackson of Lafayette who had been reported missing several days earlier.
As detectives examined the area and the body there was no obvious signs of foul play, the investigation continues and an autopsy will be performed.
