Sheriff's Office Investigates Homicide

On Wednesday September 28, 2011 at approximately 1:14am the Lafayette Sheriff’s Office responded to the 100 Block of Lamas circle in reference to suspicious circumstances. The caller advised he returned home from work and found the victim on the floor of the residence unresponsive and bleeding. Upon deputies arrival they found the victim a 46 year old female to have no signs of life, and the deputies observed obvious signs of foul play consistent with a homicide. The victim’s vehicle a 2009 Mazda 3 Blue in color bearing La. Lic SLS132 is missing from the residence. Deputies are attempting to locate this vehicle and are asking that if anyone sees or has any information about this vehicle to contact Law Enforcement or call Lafayette Crime Stoppers 232-Tips.

Updated information on Homicide at 108 Lomas Circle, the victim’s vehicle was located at a rest area on I-49 in St. Landry Parish by Law Enforcement. 47 year old Michael Alanzo Denson of Lafayette was found deceased inside the vehicle believed to be from an apparent suicide.

After investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 47 year old Mellissa Lair of 108 Lomas Circle in Lafayette, detectives believe a domestic altercation between Melissa Lair and Michael Denson occurred that night in which Lair was stabbed several times in the upper body by Denson, who then took Lair’s vehicle and fled from the scene. The investigation is continuing at this time.
