Sheriff's K-9 Team wins First Place in National Competition

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Canine Team participated in the 2011 National Police Canine Association Seminar from October 8th through the 14th in Beaumont, Texas. The first five days consisted of training in various areas such as Zodiac boat deployments, Dutch training methods, minimal narcotic odor training, tactical canine training, and other methods. The training was offered by 18 instructors from 10 different agencies.

The final day of the seminar consisted of patrol and narcotics competitions. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Canine Team competed in both scenarios and brought back the first and fifth place awards in the patrol competition. Over 50 canine teams from several agencies such as Los Angeles County California Sheriff’s Office, Lee County Florida Sheriff’s Office, Lenexa Kansas Police Department, and Pasadena Texas Police Department competed in both scenarios.
