Neustrom Honors Deputies of the Quarter

Thursday, April 11, 2002

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Michael W. Neustrom would like to recognize the following outstanding Deputies who are being honored as Deputy of the Quarter within their respective Divisions.

Deputy Kathy Piccione – Civil Seizure and Sales, is a seven-year veteran of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office. She has efficiently and professionally handled massive amounts of paperwork for seizures and sales, spending extra hours on weekends and in the evenings to complete these tasks. Piccione “continues to make herself available whenever called upon for assistance in other sections of the division and is a great asset to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office.”

Sergeant Walter Sampy, a 17-year veteran of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, currently serves as the Food Production Supervisor for the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. Sgt Sampy always projects a positive attitude. He is a professional chef with over 40 years of culinary experience, and routinely accomplishes the difficult task of teaching inmate workers with little or no experience. He has successfully molded inmate workers into bakers, cooks, pantry/inventory control workers as well as modified diet cooks. This teaching is done while coordinating other food service tasks – serving almost one million meals/year – and while battling diabetes (he receives dialysis 3 days/week after his eight hour shift).

Deputy Mark Brasseaux, is a 12-year veteran, and is currently assigned to the Criminal Warrants section of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office. Earlier this year, Deputy Brasseaux’s outstanding display of investigative skills, interrogative skills and observatory skills” enabled him to clear several outstanding arrest warrants, and an armed robbery by locating and arresting both suspects. The weapon, ski mask and coveralls used in the robbery were also recovered. From the time the warrants were signed, to the time both suspects were apprehended was approximately two and hours.
