Man accused of attempted abduction of student

Thursday, May 10, 2012

On Thursday May 10, 2012 deputies responded to a citizen call concerning a suspected attempted abduction of a 12-year-old child who had just been dropped off by a school bus in the 100 block of Pennington Drive in Lafayette Parish.  The Charles Burke Elementary male student told deputies that a stranger pulled up on the side of him while he was walking and told him to the get into the truck.  The child ran home in an obviously fearful state and alerted his mother who called authorities.

It was determined that the suspect had pulled up to a residence in the same neighborhood and that the vehicle was still there when deputies arrived.  Deputies questioned the man who stated he was attempting to provide the boy with a ride home but confirmed that he neither knew the child nor knew where he lived.

Deputies arrested 41-year-old Jonathan Rogers of Lafayette and booked him into the parish jail for attempted simple kidnapping.
