Sheriff’s Office Hosts State Coordinating Committee Meeting

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Community Corrections Campus was proud to have hosted the most recent meeting of the Louisiana District Judges Association and Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections Coordinating Committee meeting. The day-long meeting was held on Friday, July 26 and attended by District Judges from across the state. After opening remarks by Secretary of Public Safety and Corrections Jimmy LeBlanc the group discussed a variety of issues facing the Louisiana Criminal Justice System.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office gave a presentation on the variety of programs and services provided by LPSO aimed at reducing recidivism.  Attendees had an opportunity to tour The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Community Corrections Campus and see many of these programs first hand.

The Louisiana District Judges Association (LDJA) champions many different initiatives.  Each initiative is supported by a committee which seeks to improve upon and make more efficient our Louisiana judicial system.  The LDJA/DOC  (Department of Corrections) Liaison Committee works with judicial partners such as the Louisiana Department of Corrections, Louisiana District Attorneys Association, Louisiana Public Defenders Board, Sheriff Associations, and others, with the common purpose being improvement of the criminal justice system in Louisiana.  The members of the committee meet several times each year, at different locations, in order to share information on new or best practices and to gather ideas for improvement within the system.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), American Correctional Association (ACA) and NCCHC (National Commission on Correctional Health Care) for the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
