LPSO Offender Work Crews Clean Up Graffiti at Children’s Park

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office’s LAPCORR Industries Deputies and offender work crews spent the morning cleaning graffiti from playground equipment at Pee Wee Park.

The graffiti removal is done with a process called Sodablasting. Sodablasting uses high-pressure compressed air to shoot an environmentally friendly blasting material, consisting of sodium bicarbonate (also known as baking soda). It is perfect for removing graffiti since it does virtually no damage to the substrate.

“We have been offering graffiti removal services to the community for over a year now. We are glad that we can provide this needed service, in an effort to combat the issue of unwanted graffiti on public property,” said Lt. Jared Yashar, Inmate Industries Manager.

LAPCORR Industries provides valuable job experience to many Lafayette Parish Correctional Center offenders by simulating a “real-world” work environment where offenders build skills useful upon re-entry into society. LAPCORR Industries is located on Grissom Drive near the Lafayette Regional Airport and is one of the LPSO programs that will relocate to the new 29-acre Public Safety Complex on Willow Street  once it is complete.
