Beverlyna Handy is the September Challenge Coin Award Recipient

Tuesday, October 8, 2013

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office proudly announces that Deputy Beverlyna Handy has been selected as the September winner of the Challenge Coin Award. This award recognizes Corrections employees who, through their work ethic and actions, personify the attributes of leadership, creativity, honor and innovation. Beverlyna works as a deputy with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Transitional Team. The Transitional Team is assigned to oversee the construction and future operational details of the new Public Safety Complex that is scheduled to open early next year. The award is unique in that every new winner is selected by the current winner, making it truly a peer-to-peer award.

Beverlyna was nominated by Sergeant Kristy Wright the prior winner. In her nomination letter, Sergeant Wright wrote, “It has been a great pleasure to work with Deputy Handy. She has a pleasant personality and is a hard worker. Deputy Handy demonstrates great teamwork, leadership skills, accepts responsibilities willingly, and at times goes beyond her call of duty. She displays a good rapport with co-workers and is very thoughtful and considerate to others. Deputy Handy’s loyalty to herself and the department is what I call a model employee of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.”

The Challenge Coin Award process now stipulates that Beverlyna identify and nominate the next award winner. Congratulations Beverlyna Handy for being recognized for a job well done!
