Mental Health - Criminal Justice Collaborative Networking Event

The Lafayette Parish Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee (LCJCC) is hosting a networking forum to link criminal justice agencies and mental health and supportive service agencies. The goal of the Mental Health-Criminal Justice Collaborative Networking Event is to form connections between public and private organizations that provide services and supports to justice-involved individuals with mental illness. Connections start with conversations, and that is the focus of this networking event

"This is not a standard networking event where you stand by your table and pass out flyers and brochures. This networking event is about connecting people, programs and resources", said Dr. Holly Howat, Executive Director of LCJCC. All participants will engage in interactive and engaging activities designed to foster connections in our community focused on supports and services for individuals with mental illness.

This is the second event of the Mental Health - Criminal Justice Collaborative. The first, held in December 2015, facilitated over 60 participants in a discussion and planning session to improve mental health and criminal justice collaboration to prevent unnecessary incarceration of individuals with mental illness. The goals were to build and strengthen collaboration among stakeholder agencies through discussions on current capacity and needed supports and services to address the needs of justice-involved individuals with mental illness. "Feedback that we received highlighted a need to learn more about various agencies and their work in this area in order to develop and strengthen coordination of supports and services," said Judge Marilyn Castle, Member of the Mental-Health-Criminal Justice Collaborative Advisory Council.
