An early morning investigation conducted by Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Agents led to the arrest of one man in Lafayette Parish.

Just before 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, agents conducted a traffic stop and probable cause search of a vehicle traveling on I-49 near Carencro. The search resulted in the discovery and seizure of various illegal narcotics and one firearm.

One of the occupants of the vehicle, Paul Lastrapes, 32, was found to be in possession of approximately 148 grams of crystal meth, 158 grams of marijuana and a bottle containing Promethazine syrup. Lastrapes, who is a convicted felon, was also found to be in possession of a Taurus PT 24/7 semi-automatic pistol as well as two magazines of ammunition for the firearm, a digital scale and more than $2,000.

Lastrapes is charged with Possession with the Intent to Distribute (PWITD) Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS), PWITD Schedule II CDS, Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of CDS, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of Certain Felonies, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Legend Drug and Monies Derived from Transactions Involving Drug Proceeds.

Lastrapes was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on the above charges.
