Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Deputies were called to the scene of a fire of a recreational vehicle on US Hwy 90 Service Road near its intersection with Verot School Road. The vehicle was a total loss and though the cause has yet to be confirmed Fire Investigators suspect some mechanical issue due to the origin of the fire. There was only one occupant, the driver escaped the vehicle unharmed. The vehicle was part of the transportation crew for the performers of the Cirque Du Soieil group currently performing at the Cajundome this week. Highway 90 traffic was shut down for a period of time as the eletrical transmission lines were directly above the flames which exceeded 50 feet high, SLEMCO crews were called out and rendered the scene safe and traffic was allowed to resume both east and west bound on the highway, the service road remained closed while firemen sifted through the remains of the RV. Department of Transportation and Development also responded to assist with traffic light controls once the fire was under control. Nothing else was damaged as a result of this fire.
