The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office proudly announces that Deputy Thomas
James, Food Services Staff Deputy, has been selected as this month's winner of the Challenge Coin Award. This award recognizes Corrections employees who, through their work ethic and actions, personify the attributes of leadership, creativity, honor and innovation.
The award is unique in that every new winner is selected by the current winner, making it truly a peer-to-peer award. Challenge Coin recipients exemplify all that Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Employees strive to uphold: “To serve the community with courtesy, professionalism, and respect.”
Deputy James has been with the department for nearly five years starting as a Security Shift Deputy. Currently he serves as a Food Service Deputy overseeing a staff of offender workers that help prepare millions of meals a year. Deputy James was nominated by Sergeant Alicia Barbier; in her nomination letter, Sgt. Barbier wrote, “Deputy James continuously strives to work hard and go out of his way to help others; he is dedicated, not only to the Kitchen Department, but to Corrections department as a whole.” The challenge coin award process now stipulates that Deputy James identify and nominate the next award winner.
