Lafayette Parish Deputies Honored

Wednesday, April 24, 2013

Several Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office employees were honored at today’s Lafayette Crime Stoppers Annual Installation and Board Meeting. Receiving the Crime Stopper Outstanding Recognition award for the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office was Detective Casey Barfield with the LPSO Juvenile Unit.

In his nomination letter, Captain Mike Andrus, Head of the Criminal Investigation Division, wrote, “Detective Barfield has exhibited outstanding leadership and service to the community. He has accomplished this by assisting other agencies, reviewing monthly cases with the Hearts of Hope Foundation, and increasing the awareness and prevention of child abuse in the community.” Det. Barfield has volunteered to assist in a recent educational film called “Beyond the Pain” which is geared towards encouraging parents of children who have been sexually abused to obtain education, guidance, and counseling for themselves so they may be a more positive support person for their child.

Det. Barfield volunteers his time to educate and train other agencies, volunteers, and other advocate workers on the laws as it pertains to sexual abuse.  He was recently honored with an award by the Hearts of Hope Foundation / Children Advocacy Center of Louisiana for his hard work and dedication on the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) Board.

Also honored today were the members of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office who worked to solve the Mickey Shunick Case and were assigned to the twenty person dedicated taskforce. Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Shunick Taskforce members include Captain Jack Lightfoot who heads the Community/Intelligence Division, Sergeant Clay Carter and Deputy Troy Romero of the Patrol Division, and Sergeant John Kelly of the Metro Narcotics Division. We congratulate them all for their hard work and dedication.
