Dear Sheriff Neustrom,
I would like to thank you for allowing the LSU Ag Center County Agent's Office/Extension Service/Lafayette Master Gardener program to cooperate with your office on the Sheriff's Garden. Over the past 3 years I have had the opportunity to trial new vegetable varieties and planting techniques that have provided useful information for gardeners in the Lafayette area.
During this time period I have had the pleasure of working with Deputy Doug Judice, and I have been impressed with the progress that he has made with the quantity and quality of vegetables being produced. His use of new varieties and the improvement of the soil with compost have been rewarding to watch.
This fall Doug worked with us on planting a one acre wildlife food plot. This demonstration plot is a trial of different forages that hunters can plant to attract wild game. The plot was planted by our LSU AgCenter wildlife specialist, Dr. Don Reed. Depending on the success of the plot, we may try to do a small field day in the spring to show local hunters the results of our research efforts.
Thank you for your cooperation,
Stuart Gauthier, Lafayette &

Dear Sheriff Neustrom,
I would like to thank you for the assistance provided by Deputy Barry Baldwin during the period of September 5-8, 2006.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation with the assistance of Deputy Baldwin provided Counterterrorism Preparedness sweeps to the Louisiana Superdome prior to the facility's reopening.
Deputy Baldwin made significant contributions to the mission at hand. Deputy Baldwin executed his assigned tasks flawlessly.
In summary, New Orleans would like to express its gratitude to Deputy Baldwin and to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office. Deputy Baldwin's support and dedication to the Bureau's Counterterrorism Mission is greatly appreciated. He has provided a great service to the FBI and assisted in the rebuilding and recovery of the City of New Orleans.
The efforts of Deputy Baldwin and your department as a whole continue to keep Louisiana and this Nation safe from those who are prepared and determined to do us harm.
We look forward to working with your department again in the future.

On behalf of Lafayette Habitat for Humanity, I want to let you know how much we appreciated the assistance the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center provided at one of our Gilman Road home sites. Several inmates supervised by one of your deputies unloaded a "House in a Box" - an entire semi-trailer full of wall panels for a home that will be built in partnership with a family displaced by the recent hurricanes. We had pretty short notice of the delivery, and since it was a weekday morning it would have been difficult for us to round up a crew of our regular volunteers - not to mention the fact that there was quite a bit of heavy lifting involved!
Inmate work crews also helped us out a couple of years ago when we were cleaning out and renovating a warehouse that we now use to store building materials. They were exceptionally hard-working, and accomplished in a few hours what would have taken us considerably longer to do with some of our volunteer crews. It's my hope that we can continue to work together and explore more possibilities for involving LPCC workers on Habitat projects.

Dear Sheriff Neustrom:
On behalf of the judges, staff, and participants of the Lafayette Parish Drug Court program, I would like to thank you for your office's assistance with our special Drug Court event which was held last Thursday, January 26. Not only did the bailiffs perform their normal duties in the courtroom, they also helped to set up and break down tables for the reception, helped with refreshments, assisted with getting food to and from the reception area, and even escorted me and my staff to our cars afterwards. They are always a pleasure to work with, but in this instance, they deserve special commendation for going well beyond the call of duty and pitching in wherever needed.
Also, we sincerely appreciate you taking time out to attend the Drug Court program. Your personal participation along with your offices's assistance helped contribute to the success of the event.
With the help of you and others, I am confident that we achieved our goal of increasing awareness among our officials as well as our community that Drug Court plays a vital role in turning lives around and is an integral component of an effective criminal justice system. Thanks again for your support.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of education, teachers and students in Lafayette Parish. I was one of the 12 finalists in the recent Lafayette Education Foundation (LEF) Teacher Awards ceremony. Without your support, it is possible that these types of ceremonies would not happen, and that teachers would not get to realize that they have people rooting for them in the community.
I feel so wonderful that I was a part of this, that so many people value education. The positive effects of being a small part of this will stay with me for so long. It has strengthened my resolve to do as much as possible for the students of Lafayette Parish.
Once again, thank you for all that you do to support education.
