I would like to thank you for allowing Judice Middle School to use the Community Service Unit in Marigny/Jackson Square area. It allowed
our school to offer free homework help last school year. We are looking forward to our continued joint effort to service our
community. We started an idea last year and are willing to upgrade it this year in regards to the community garden.
On Tuesday Sept. 20th Judice Middle will supply 3 containers with dirt and plants outside
the CSU in our beginning effort to jump start the garden. We have started school gardens at Judice Middle and are willing to provide the tilling services to make two thirty rows five feet apart to allow the community to start the garden. Judice Middle School will be providing some plants to jump start the garden across the street as well.
Another possible expansion to the CSU would be to allow the parents access to the NEW parent portal Internet connection to see students grades. We have supplied tables and chairs inside the CSU
and the Sheriff Department was replacing older laptops that could be added to CSU and I can provide the parent portal training and be
available at least once a week to allow the parents access to their child's grades.

They represented you and your department very well. Our children were very impressed with each of your officers and their canines. All are an asset to you department.

On behalf of the membership Monsignor W. J. Teurlings Knights of Columbus Council No. 3202, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude for your participation as a sponsor for the Knights of Columbus International Amateur Golf Association’s (KCIAGA) 43rd annual tournament which was hosted by our council during the week of June 12th through the 17th in Lafayette. All told, 198 golfers from 17 states and Canada participated in this event which is held in a different host city each year. It was our goal from the outset to put on a quality, affordable event with which our council, sponsors and the KCIAGA would be proud to be associated. The Tournament Committee from our council worked very hard to make this happen and in the end, we received lots of positive feedback from the participants. Many told us that it was the best tournament they’ve attended to date, but without your support, this event could not and would not have been the success that we believe that it was.
Please know that the proceeds from the tournament will be used by our council to continue and expand its charitable works in our Parish, community, state, and nation. Thank you very much for your support and generosity. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Dear Sheriff Neustrom:
I want to personally thank you and your agency for participating in the National Take-Back-Initiative on April 30, 2011. The participation of our state and local partners is particularly important to the success of the operation. Nationwide participation increased from approximately 3,000 for the first initiative on September 25, 2010 to 3,852 on April 30, 2011. This resulted in an increase in the number of collection sites from 4086 to 5361. Overall this increased the collection weight from 245,506 lbs., or 123 tons, to 376,593 lbs, or 188 tons. The New Orleans Field Division collected approximately 10,000 lbs. This figure is up from 8,300 lbs collected last year. There were 312 collection sites operated by 256 law enforcement agencies.
Shortly after the fall’s Take-Back Day, Congress passed legislation amednig the Controlled Substances Act to allow the DEA to develop a process for people to safely dispose of their prescription drugs. DEA immediately began developing this is process after President Obama signed the Safe and Secure Drug Disposal Act of 2010.
The National Take- Back Initiative is intended to provide a safe and convenient way for the members of the public to dispose of unwanted, unneeded, or expired controlled substances which fuel the potential of abuse and risks the public’s health and safety. Your agency’s contributions are very much appreciated. While waiting for laws and regulations to be enacted, we hope that you will continue to support our initiatives.

On March 28, 2011 Deputy Van Otipoby gave a presentation to my Survey of Corrections class at Remington College, at an evening class. Her presentation was very informative covering many of the issues we have been discussing in class. She was very knowledgeable and the students learned a great deal about work release.
I want to thank you for allowing Deputy Otipoby to speak to our class. You are fortunate to have her as an employee. She was very professional and personable. Our students related well to her and enjoyed her informative presentation. The students spoke very highly of her after she left. They particularly appreciated her recruiting information. I am sure this will generate some job applications for LPCC from our students.
Please convey our sincere appreciation to her for taking time from her busy schedule to speak to us. And again, thank you for allowing her the opportunity to visit us.

On behalf of our Board of Directors and the thousands of people who benefit from our food bank, I would like to express our appreciation to you for your assistance during our recent food drive. The trustees were such a help to us again this year. Since I knew that they could not be with us in the evening, I had them load the truck that had the higher ramp. Our volunteers were able to load the other truck.
The 24th Annual KLFY-TV-10/Foodnet "Food for Families" food was our most successful food drive to date. We received over 70 tons of food and in excess of $70,000. (When we can afford it, we buy gift certificates at our local grocery stores that enable our recipients to purchase milk, meat, etc. Our other chairmen in 20 other cities in Acadiana did well too.
In mid-September, I began to call our Representatives together. This is the time it takes to complete the job, as I always do the personal acknowledgments myself (even though all of our donors and friends have been thanked a few days after the food drive). In closing, I would like to wish you and your family the very best during the New Year.

On behalf of the student Knights of Columbus, Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Council 14542, I want to thank you for the use of the Bar-B-Que trailer for our Po-Boy Sausage Sale on Sunday, March 20, 2011. We cooked 500 sausages and it was a lot easier because of the Bar-B-Que trailer. The Po-Boy sale was to raise money for our three seminarians and to fund other projects at Our Lady of Wisdom.
The Po-Boys that were not sold nor picked up were given to the Sisters at the Carmelite Monastery, the Christian Brothers at De La Salle, and the residents at Village-du-Lac. We thank you for your generosity in making this Po-Boy fundraiser an outstanding success.
We also appreciated how very helpful your staff was in scheduling, delivering, and picking up the trailer.

This past weekend in Lafayette, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office helped to host NRA Instructor training for Boy Scout adult leaders. A special and very public Thank You is extended to Art Hawkins, the Scout Executive for Evangeline Area Council, Alex Wazenkewitz and Vanessa Mitchell with the LPSO, and Sheriff Michael Neustrom. With the able support of these fine people, the training which insures safety and enjoyment for our Scouting youth went without a hitch.
As an NRA Training Counselor working with youth programs, I congratulate the people of the Lafayette community for having such great people in your service.
