Couple Arrested for Child Cruelty

Tuesday, February 15, 2005

On Tuesday February 15, 2005 Juvenile Detectives with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office arrested Lafayette residents, 31 year-old Alton Kyle Jr. and 25 year-old Dena Kyle on charges of Cruelty to a Juvenile and Child Desertion.

On February 9, 2005 the Louisiana Office of Child Protection contacted Sheriff's Office Detectives in reference to allegations of Cruelty to a Juvenile involving the Kyles and their 2-year-old son. The investigation revealed that while in the parents care on February 2, 2005 the child received 2nd Degree burns to his arm from scalding water. He was taken to a hospital where doctors ordered the child to be admitted for medical treatment, but the parents refused and left. The Kyles then left the injured child overnight with a sitter without medical treatment.

Arrest warrants for Alton and Dena Kyle were executed on Tuesday February 15, 2005. Both individuals are presently incarcerated at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Facility with bonds set at $35,000.00 each. Child Protection Services have taken the 2 year-old boy and the Alton's two other children into their care.
