Deputies make arrest
Thursday, June 16, 2005
On Wednesday June 8, 2005 Intelligence Unit Detectives of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office received information about a group of individuals who may have been committing several random crimes of violence in the Acadiana area. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, Lafayette City Police and Louisiana State Police began a joint investigation into the allegations made and the information gathered suggested that there was a scheduled fight between two groups of people to take place in the parking lot at 3220 Ambassador Caffery (Checkers Restaurant) on Saturday June 11, 2005.
While conducting surveillance at the location, they witnessed about 25 individuals gathered together in the parking lot. One of the people in the group then approached an unsuspecting Checkers customer (an 18 year-old male) and struck him on the side of his face with his fist. Detectives responded immediately and rendered aid to the victim. Acadian Ambulance also responded to the incident and the victim was taken to a local hospital. The suspect in the incident, 22year-old Colby Foreman of Carencro was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Battery and is presently incarcerated at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center with a $50,000 bond.
Detectives identified and questioned the rest of the individuals at the scene and numerous weapons--baseball bats, sticks, and a taser--were recovered from several vehicles in the parking lot. All three agencies are continuing the investigation, which may result in additional arrests for other crimes they may have committed
