LPSO Correctional Center to Hold Mock Disaster Drill
Wednesday, December 14, 2011
The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Correctional Center located at 916 Lafayette Street will have a mock disaster drill on Thursday, December 15, at 2:00 p.m. The drill will be conducted with the help and cooperation of the Lafayette Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance, will last approximately one hour, and will be held within the confines of the Correctional Center. Disaster drills are held at the LPSO Correctional Center periodically in order to maintain the highest level of training and preparedness in the case of a real emergency.
Law enforcement accreditations held by the Sheriff’s Office also require these drills to be conducted annually. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), and the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA).
The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office is the only Sheriff’s Office in the State of Louisiana that holds three national law enforcement accreditations. In addition to CALEA and ACA, it also holds accreditation from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC).
