Delanea Smith Named Latest Challenge Coin Award Winner
Friday, October 23, 2015
The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office proudly announces that Delanea Smith, a deputy in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center, has been selected as the current winner of the LPSO Corrections Challenge Coin Award. This award recognizes Corrections employees who, through their work ethic and actions, personify the attributes of leadership, creativity, honor, and innovation. The award is unique in that every new winner is selected by the current winner, making it truly a peer-to-peer award.
Deputy Smith was nominated by the previous winner, Lynda Fontenot. In Lynda’s nomination letter, she wrote, “I choose Deputy Delanea Smith as the new recipient of the month’s Challenge Coin. Deputy Smith originally started in Intake and Booking and then was assigned to be the correspondence clerk for all sentencing sheets. She spent countless hours inputting court slips and calculating parish time offenders. Her duties require her to deal with Judges, City Court, District Attorneys and the public, which she did in a professional basis.
Then Delanea decided to leave our Intake family to be a full-fledged corrections deputy. She made it down to Open Booking where she sometimes has the grueling task of printing DOC’s for me. I always know Delanea is working nights because I find DOC prints in my office the next morning. She sometimes makes it a point to ask where the paperwork is so she can print DOC’s during down time. Deputy Delanea Smith is truly deserving of this Challenge Coin.”
The Challenge Coin Award process now stipulates that Delanea identify and nominate the next award winner. Congratulations to Delanea Smith for a job well done!
