The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office proudly announces that Mary “MJ” Gerard, a deputy in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center, has been selected as the current winner of the LPSO Corrections Challenge Coin Award. This award recognizes Corrections employees who, through their work ethic and actions, personify the attributes of leadership, creativity, honor, and innovation. The award is unique in that every new winner is selected by the current winner, making it truly a peer-to-peer award.
Deputy Gerard was nominated by the previous winner, Delanea Smith. In Delanea’s nomination letter she wrote, “When I first met MJ she was working on C-shift in the Intake and Open Booking area. When we began to work together, MJ instantly took me under her wing and taught me everything I needed to know in my position. Her hospitality and willingness to assist me with professional growth was truly welcomed. She helped guide me and provide me with the necessary tools to be successful in Open Booking and Intake. Her work ethic and the passion that she has for the job is evident. When I come into contact with MJ, she is always positive with her bubbly personality and constant smile. Having a coworker such as MJ makes the day go smoother because you are confident in her abilities and efficiency. Her efforts should be given acknowledgement and the spotlight should be places on all she does. For this reason I would like to present her with the challenge coin.”
The Challenge Coin Award process now stipulates that Mary identify and nominate the next award winner. Congratulations to Mary Gerard for a job well done!
