LPCC Hostage Incident Ends Peacefully

On Saturday, March 1, 2003, at approximately 6:30 PM, inmate Calvert Antoine took a medical staff worker hostage at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. The inmate was in medical holding on a suicide watch when the incident occurred. The inmate grabbed the worker, and continued to hold the worker using physical restraint; no weapons were involved. The incident was resolved within one hour without injury to the inmate or the victim. Antoine was being held at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on a charge of 2nd Degree Battery, but will now have the charge of 2nd Degree Kidnapping added as a result of this incident.
