The Civil Division includes service of civil litigation and criminal process. The civil litigation area is divided into 3 areas: process service, seizure and sale, and garnishments. The criminal process area handles service in criminal, traffic, family court, and juvenile matters.
A key area of responsibility for the Civil Division is seizure and sale of property. Civil sales of both movable and immovable property occur every Wednesday morning (excluding holidays) at 10:00 A.M. The sales are located on the 2nd floor of the Lafayette Parish Consolidated Government Building at 1010 Lafayette St. across from the Parish Courthouse.
Bidding is open to all persons and payment must be made by 2 P.M. on the day of the sale. Only certified funds will be accepted.
The Civil Department seizes movable and immovable property under the direction of the 15th Judicial District Court. A hold harmless agreement is required to be completed and returned to our office in those cases in which movable property is to be moved, towed, or stored.
