Committed to Secure and Effective Public Safety Programs and Facilities
The goal of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Correctional Department is to provide secure and cost efficient housing, rehabilitation, and training of criminal offenders. The Corrections division operates on the premise that effective corrections is more than incarceration and should include programs and opportunities to help change lives.
In addition to the downtown LPSO Correctional facility, the division also includes the Community Corrections Campus: a training, counseling, and day reporting center located in the former J. Wallace James Elementary School. The campus also hosts the Leadership and Resiliency Program, an outreach program intended for high school and middle school students, and the Corrections Training Department.
Other facilities include the Transitional Housing facility and Inmate Industries building. Inmate Industries, or LAPCORR, helps offenders learn new trades. The Work Release Program helps qualified offenders provide for their families while in custody. These programs create revenue for the Sheriff's Department and help to offset costs to the taxpayers of Lafayette Parish.
